“Who the Heck Are You?”
This is the page where the average photographer tells you their origin story and makes themselves sound like Superman with a Nikon. I’m not that kind of photographer, so this isn’t that kind of story.
I’d love to tell you my love of photography sprang from a transcendent view of some daffodils in just the right light, or a vision of Dorothea Lange in my toast. The simple fact is, I got into photography the way I get into most things in life: completely by accident. But some accidents are happy enough to keep having, so I stuck with it.
The one thing that’s not accidental is a focus on stories. See, I started out as a reader, then became a writer, and when I picked up a camera, I set out to do the same thing I’ve tried to do behind a keyboard.
I love a good story. I also love the way people — even really withdrawn, introverted people — come alive when they’re talking about or doing something they love. And I’ll do that even if it means tracking those stories down myself!
Anyway. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it. Now that you know me a bit better, let me be honest: I can’t offer a one-size-fits-all solution to anything. I might not be the right fit for you, and you may not be the right fit for me either. The clients with whom I’ve had the most success have generally found a few of the following to be true:
- You’ve got a story to tell — about your brand, yourself, or your business — and no idea where to start
- You’d rather focus on what you do best, and photography isn’t it
- You’d sooner discuss politics and religion over Thanksgiving dinner than take another selfie
- You know you should be doing this social media thing, but finding and posting quality content is a massive time-suck
- You’re willing to approach this as a collaborative project to the extent your time allows
